Different year with a different message
This is the time of year when we usually share our Good Shepherd Academy Gift Catalog with you as we prepare for this holiday of Giving Thanks.
But this is a different year with a different message.
President Paul Biya won his 7th seven-year-term as President of Cameroon and was sworn in on November 6, 2018. Since his disputed election, violence in the English-speaking region has escalated with 79 secondary school students recently kidnapped in Bamenda, 45 minutes from Good Shepherd Academy. They were released 2 days later.
Thanks to the foresight of our Cameroonian board, GSA did not open this fall due to these very security concerns. As a result and by the grace of God, our school campus, students, faculty, staff, workers and board members are all safe.
Thanks to you, our campus for 100 students is complete with our perimeter wall/fence in place that has already protected Sr. Jane, our workers, and the campus itself. We are ready to open as soon as our Cameroonian board deems it to be safe.
Our deep appreciation goes to Sr. Jane Mankaa who has been living on campus to maintain a presence during these trying times in order to protect the school she has dreamed of for 20 years. That being said, homes and businesses have been destroyed throughout the region.
For this reason, we are collecting funds for Community Outreach in the form of Humanitarian Aid, for those individuals and families associated with Good Shepherd Academy.
We ask each of you to give at whatever level you are able.
Members of our Board of Directors are digging deep this giving season, to let our brothers and sisters in Cameroon know that we remain steadfastly and faithfully in solidarity with them during this difficult time.
We prayerfully ask you to join us, with gratitude for your ongoing support.
