An Unforgettable Experience

“It’s an experience I will always remember,” shared entering Good Shepherd Academy student, Ndensi Louisa.

Louisa, along with six other Good Shepherd Home students, was in the capitol of Yaoundé last week to attend an event hosted by the U.S. Ambassador to Cameroon, Peter Barlerin. She was chosen to sit at the ambassador’s table, what an honor for one of our own!

Poised and articulate, Louisa is a shining example of the children lovingly raised by Sister Jane Mankaa. When Good Shepherd Academy re-opens, she’s ready!

Fall is fast approaching

JMGSA 2019 brochureGSA Principal Tangye Joseph Ambe has been busy. Faculty is recruited, the curriculum and prospectus are ready, signage is in place, and we are ready to open. While recruitment has not officially occurred due to continued security concerns, many parents who have received the GSA Brochure are highly enthusiastic and just waiting for the green light to enroll their children. Principal Tangye is confident we will have a full roster of students once the coast is clear.

And that’s the issue. The Good Shepherd SLF and GSAA Boards continue to work closely together to monitor the conflict in Cameroon and will jointly agree on the optimal school opening date. “Life has priority over education,” stated new GSAA Board Member Mr. Kits Boma, Secretary of Lay Private Education in the NW Region of Cameroon. “The security situation will definitely determine the way forward. Many people here are still trying to use education as a political tool. As far as I’m concerned, only an enabling environment will guarantee effective and sustainable schooling. We cannot at this moment predict what the situation will look like in the days ahead.”

Giving thanks

We have much to be thankful for – the safety of our school campus, the excitement of our in-coming students, and national recognition of one of our faculty.

Please join us in praying for that “enabling environment” so necessary to foster learning that is non-negotiable for the safety of our students. Our children are depending on us.

Faithfully,

P.S. Stay tuned for updates on the active engagements of both boards as we continue to plan for the future together!
